He chose Auschwitz to avoid the front.  The orders he followed were crimes, not battlefield victories.  When the Allies liberated the camp, his only escape was to disguise himself as a survivor.

Germany (Pre-War) - Hans Weingart cared more about philosophy and sports than politics. But as Hitler and the Nazis rose to power, everything changed. His Jewish friends, their community, and the girl he loved were stripped of their rights, arrested, and forced to flee.

Poland (WWII) - As the Third Reich began conscripting university students into military service, Hans chose what he believed would be a safer non-combat assignment as a guard at Auschwitz. Instead of escaping the horrors of war, he entered a world where every order obeyed drew him deeper into the Nazi war machine, forcing him to confront the man he was becoming.

British-Controlled Palestine (Post-War) - During the liberation of the concentration camp, Hans disguised himself in a striped prisoner’s uniform and hid among Holocaust survivors to avoid arrest. The deception carried him to the Promised Land, where no one suspected the man he had once been. Living among the very people whose lives had been shattered by the Nazi regime forced Hans to experience the consequences of his choices from the other side. But can anyone ever truly outrun the past and keep their secrets buried forever?
